Little Freedom for Little Miss Sunshine

So Tom Cruise almost fell from every possible place in his latest film. And I completely fell for him.

After this statement, one must think that it was the first time I watched him in a cinema. Well, it was other way around. It was the first time I saw any cinema. In the twenty years of my life I had never been to a cinema. Some people might find it funny or unlucky, I like to call it life. Because sometimes the most ordinary things in life take the longest time to happen.

When my parents were young there were five cinemas in our town. By the time, I grew up all of them vanished under the rubble of economic crisis. So I always dreamed of going to cinema. Yes I did dream about it.

My mum lives in a very small town in the most underdeveloped part of Malaysia (even that is far more developed than my city). There was a cinema close by our home. I walked to the cinema, got tickets for myself and enjoyed every second of the movie.

I just realized how much I love to walk around the city (especially without any male companion with me). In Pakistan, I always have some male company with me. After that experience, I am just so annoyed with this male help that is forcibly being offered to me. Sometimes, I want to snap back at my dad and say “Excuse me sir, I can take care of myself”.

What truly empowers women is the little freedoms society offers them. Like a simple walk, freedom to choose their own clothing, choose their own friends, beliefs, careers, lovers and leaders.

A society reaches their step by step. But the first step is always the walk.

Once you have taken a step the direction becomes your choice.

In my case, I chose to walk to a dark place where a handsome man awaited me. I like to put it this way rather than saying I went to watch Mission Impossible: Fallout.

At the end of film, I wanted to stand up and clap for Tom Cruise. The film was well-directed, script was well written and Tom Cruise was just brilliant.

Imagine going to cinema for the first time and watching a film like this. I was completely blown away. Three hours in cinema felt like three minutes. Only if I could feel the same in my college too.
